The whole day slides forward. The neighborhoods that peak at 9 or 10 PM on Saturday do their Sunday business in the afternoon. The smart Sunday runs noon to nine instead of nine to two.

Sunday's best-kept secret is 6 to 9 PM. The weekend crowd has gone home to dread Monday, the rooms breathe again, and you get Saturday's bars at Tuesday's density. Ocean Beach at sunset is the single best version of this — Wonderland Ocean Pub for the window seats. So is a 7 PM cocktail at Polite Provisions with none of Saturday's wait.
