Wine Bars in San Diego by Neighborhood

James Williamson · Oct 12, 2026

San Diego is a beer city that quietly got good at wine.

We map 17 wine bars and tasting rooms, and they sit in odd places. Barely any downtown. A real cluster up the coast. And the best single room is in a neighborhood most visitors never reach.

The three I'd plan a night around

The Rose Wine Bar in South Park is the best of them, and the reason is the schedule: happy hour seven days a week, 4:30 to 6:30 — $5 select wine, $5 draft beer and cider, $2 off flights. Seven days. A daily wine happy hour at 4.6 stars with no line at the door is close to unique in this city.

Vin de Syrah downtown is the one to show someone. Grass on the walls, a hidden door, a staircase down — a fairytale cellar sitting inside the Gaslamp footprint and feeling nothing like a Gaslamp bar. Daily 5 to 7. It's also small — twenty seats. Jellyfish_ shows which of these rooms still has one.

We Olive & Wine Bar in La Jolla rates 4.7 and runs Monday to Friday 3:30 to 6:30 — $3 off wines, $2 off beer, $3 off a cheese plate. There's an olive-oil tasting counter at the front. That's the giveaway that the people here care.

North County is where the wine actually is

Nine of the 17 are north of La Jolla. That isn't where most people look.

Carlsbad has four. Napatini Bistro and Wine Bar is 4.9 and keeps a schedule nobody could memorize — Wednesday and Thursday 3 to 5, Friday 2 to 5, Saturday 8:30 to 10PM, plus Tuesday all day with free hors d'oeuvres. Carruth Cellars does Monday to Thursday 4 to 6. Costa Azul Winery runs daily 3 to 5:30. Little Victory rounds it out.

Oceanside has three, and they rate absurdly well: Coomber Craft Wines at 4.8, Golden Coast Mead at 4.8, and Bueno Wine & Goods at a perfect 5.

Encinitas has La Costa Wine at 4.8.

Closer in, Gianni Buonomo Vintners in Old Town is 4.9 — an actual urban winery, not a bar with a wine list — and Enoteca Buona Forchetta in South Park pairs with the pizza next door. Coronado Tasting Room is 4.8.

How to read this list

Before you trust any of this

Wine bars change their by-the-glass list constantly, and the happy hour usually applies to a short selected pour rather than the whole menu.

So treat this as a shortlist, not a promise. A list gives you the hours and the ratings. It can't tell you whether the room you picked is already full when you walk up, and in rooms this small that's the whole question. That's what Jellyfish_ is for. It's free, you're early, and people check in while they're out — that's what updates it.

Which of these is actually busy tonight?

A list tells you where to go. It can't tell you which of these is packed at 10:40 on a Friday, or which one already emptied out — that's the part Jellyfish_ is built for.

Jellyfish is live on the App Store — free, and built in San Diego.
